Sol is a single yellow star in the Orion region. It has eight major planets and 764 minor bodies. It is the ancestral home of the human species.

During the Colonisation Era, Sol was the capital system of the United Nations, and subsequently the Galactic Defense League, during the League and War Eras, and then the Core Governance in the Post-War Era.

After the Upload, Sol remained an important system, but since there was then no galactic government, it was no longer the capital. By the time of the Quiet Era, Sol falls under the jurisdiction of the Caydlaw.
